Dockmaster required for Leading Shipbuilder/Ship Repair Company

A leading shipbuilding and repair company is seeking a Dockmaster to plan and oversee all dry docking activities.
The Dockmaster will have the following responsibilities:
- Work with project managers on dock and pier capabilities.
- Act as the first line of customer service for incoming vessels.
- Oversee daily waterfront operations.
- Collaborate with supervisors and Safety to move heavy equipment and materials safely.
- Operate internal programs to track invoices and work hours.
- Manage company assets, including facility repairs, maintenance, and equipment installations.
- Plan and execute docking/undocking activities, perform stability calculations, and maintain logs.
- Lead the Preventive Maintenance team and adjust programs for efficiency.
- Support product/process improvements and coordinate with management.
- Ensure a safe and clean dock environment.
- Collaborate with the Environmental/Occupational Safety and Health Manager for compliance.
- Manage staffing levels and materials to achieve financial objectives.
- Direct project work, coordinate tasks, and inspect work for quality.
- Design and plan dockings using CAD.
- Oversee vessel, drydock, facilities, and personnel during operations.
- Supervise and train employees on docking processes.
- Administer drydocking paperwork, tests, and inspections.
- Track and execute annual compliance items.
- Ensure facility operations with all utilities functioning.
- Oversee maintenance and repairs of rolling stock and machinery.
- Communicate with contractors, regulatory bodies, clients, and team members.
- Explore opportunities for energy/utility conservation and recycling.
- Identify maintenance requirements and produce estimates/analysis.
- Develop budgets for the annual Facilities Business Plan and manage finances.
- Control security budgets, recruit/train personnel, and maintain checkpoints.
- Monitor surveillance systems and respond to emergencies.
- Manage crane picks, heavy lifts, and major rigging operations.
- Supervise heavy rigging equipment.
- Directly supervise up to 20 hourly craft employees, including the Assistant Dock Master, Facilities Supervisor, and Dry Dock Rigging staff.
- Manage all staff involved in dry-docking operations
The ideal Dockmaster candidate will have the following skillset:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in drydocking operations.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's degree in business or engineering, or equivalent experience, preferred.
- At least ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in a shipyard or plant engineering environment within the marine industry.
- At least five (5) years of progressively responsible managerial experience, including three (3) years in a supervisory role.
- Specific experience and knowledge of shipyard operations, complex/critical rigging, and heavy lift operations.
- Familiarity with industrial equipment, cranes, and plant utilities.
- Commitment to maintaining professional and technical knowledge.
- Experience collaborating with ship superintendents, port engineers, craft supervisors, and department managers.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with all departments, employee levels, and external customers.
- Knowledge of marine equipment, ship repair/construction techniques, sequencing of activities, and shipyard safety practices.
- Ability to lead, manage, and motivate employees in a production environment.
- Skilled in developing and implementing strategic plans.
- Analytical ability to research problem areas and special requests.
- Well-organized, detail-oriented, and customer-focused self-starter.
- Proficient in reading and comprehending work specifications, blueprints, contracts, and technical publications.
- Capable of handling competing priorities and deadlines, and responding to high-priority, time-sensitive projects.
- Ability to schedule, direct, and organize work within a diverse department and coordinate with other departments.
- Reacts and performs effectively in emergency situations.
- Knowledge of accounting systems, material procurement systems, and data processing systems.
- Proficient in using PC and software applications like Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, and database programs.
- Knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations.
- Thorough understanding of shipyard production procedures, government regulations, craft jurisdictions, ship repair methods, and administrative procedures.
