Position Overview
The EHS Coordinator/Manager for Plant or Multi-Plant Operations plays a critical role in fostering a safe, compliant, and environmentally conscious workplace. This position ensures the successful implementation of safety strategies, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives across designated facilities. Reporting to the Regional EHS Manager, the role requires leadership, collaboration, and expertise to embed safety as a core organizational value.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership and Culture Development:
- Drive proactive safety initiatives aimed at achieving a zero-injury workplace aligned with the company's "Do No Harm" philosophy.
- Collaborate with leadership to assess, implement, and sustain behavior-based safety programs.
- Advocate for a positive safety culture, encouraging ownership of safety practices at every organizational level.
Program Deployment and Oversight:
- Implement and maintain all environmental and safety programs, policies, and compliance frameworks.
- Oversee injury/illness documentation and manage cases, including investigations and follow-up care coordination.
- Conduct comprehensive near-miss and hazard investigations, ensuring robust corrective actions.
- Track and report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure and improve EHS performance.
Regulatory and Compliance Management:
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local environmental, safety, and health regulations.
- Serve as the primary contact during inspections and audits conducted by agencies such as OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- Provide timely and accurate internal and external reporting on safety metrics and compliance outcomes.
Coaching and Training:
- Develop and deliver impactful training sessions to enhance understanding and adherence to safety requirements.
- Mentor safety committee members and empower them to become safety champions.
- Guide plant leaders and employees on EHS policy interpretation and application.
Operational Support:
- Partner with plant management on safety-related initiatives, projects, and performance improvements.
- Manage hazardous materials, including used oil and other regulated substances.
- Lead Return-to-Work (RTW) programs and disability management at the plant level.
Strategic Contributions:
- Reduce and prevent life-altering safety events through data-driven strategies and proactive engagement.
- Strengthen the "Brother's Keeper" culture by encouraging accountability and mutual responsibility.
- Support leadership with insights and strategies to address emerging safety challenges and opportunities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Environmental Health, or a related field (preferred).
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification is a plus.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in manufacturing or a similar environment.
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and proven compliance expertise.
- Strong ability to lead without direct authority, driving change through influence and collaboration.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Adaptability to dynamic environments and a proven track record of managing complex EHS challenges.
