About the Role
Our FMCG company is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Category Manager specializing in Raw Materials to join our dynamic team in Basel, Switzerland. As the Category Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing sourcing strategies for raw materials essential to our products. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive cost efficiency, ensure supply security, and optimize the value of our supplier partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Sourcing: Develop and implement sourcing strategies for the raw materials category, aligning with the company's broader procurement and business objectives.
- Supplier Management: Identify, evaluate, and develop relationships with key suppliers in the raw materials space, focusing on improving supplier performance, quality, and reliability.
- Market Analysis & Benchmarking: Perform market research and benchmarking to track price trends, supply risks, and industry innovations. Proactively adjust sourcing strategies to maintain competitive pricing and supply security.
- Cost Optimization: Conduct spend analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and negotiate favorable terms and conditions that maximize value for the company.
- Sustainability & Risk Management: Drive sustainable procurement practices by collaborating with suppliers on sustainability initiatives. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to ensure a resilient and sustainable supply chain.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with internal teams, including R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, and Finance, to understand their raw material requirements and align sourcing strategies accordingly.
- Contract Negotiation & Compliance: Lead negotiations for contracts with suppliers, ensuring adherence to company standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices in procurement.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Chemistry, or a related field. A Master's degree or certifications (e.g., CIPS, CPSM) are a plus.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in procurement or category management, specifically within raw materials for FMCG, food, or consumer goods industries.
- Analytical & Negotiation Skills: Strong analytical skills with proven experience in data-driven decision-making. Exceptional negotiation skills and a demonstrated ability to manage complex supplier relationships.
- Market Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the raw materials market, including supply trends, risk factors, and sustainability considerations.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in procurement software (e.g., SAP, Ariba) and advanced Excel skills.
- Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Language Skills: Fluency in English; proficiency in German or French is a plus.
