Job Summary:
The Customs Compliance Specialist will be responsible for managing and overseeing customs compliance processes, ensuring that all import and export activities adhere to Dutch, EU, and international regulations. This role involves preparing and reviewing customs documentation, ensuring adherence to trade laws, and working closely with customs authorities, clients, and internal teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of customs processes, compliance best practices, and the ability to provide guidance on regulatory matters.
Key Responsibilities:
Customs Compliance and Documentation:
- Prepare, review, and process import and export documentation to ensure compliance with customs regulations, including declarations, certificates of origin, and trade classifications.
- Classify goods according to HS codes and ensure accurate documentation of product descriptions and values.
- Conduct audits of customs documentation and entries to ensure accuracy, compliance, and proper record-keeping.
Regulatory Adherence and Process Improvement:
- Monitor and stay updated on Dutch, EU, and international trade laws and regulations, including changes in customs tariffs, export controls, and sanctions.
- Advise internal teams and clients on compliance requirements, best practices, and any regulatory updates affecting import and export processes.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in customs compliance and documentation.
Risk Management and Audits:
- Conduct risk assessments related to customs compliance and proactively address potential non-compliance issues.
- Prepare and support internal and external audits, working with customs authorities to resolve any discrepancies or issues.
- Investigate and respond to customs inquiries, penalties, and corrective actions, ensuring that all compliance concerns are addressed promptly.
Client and Stakeholder Coordination:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on customs compliance matters, providing guidance on regulatory requirements and compliance solutions.
- Collaborate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and regulatory authorities to resolve any issues that may arise during the customs process.
- Support clients in the event of customs delays or holds, providing expert assistance to expedite resolution.
Data Management and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records in compliance databases and ensure proper documentation for audits and future reference.
- Generate compliance reports, track KPIs, and provide insights to management on trends, risks, and areas for improvement.
- Conduct data analysis on customs activities to identify patterns or discrepancies, recommending corrective actions when necessary.
