Job Description:
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Commodity Buyer to join our procurement team in California within the automotive industry. The Commodity Buyer will be responsible for sourcing and managing key commodities, such as metals, plastics, and other raw materials, required for automotive production. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in supply chain management, strategic sourcing, and vendor relations to ensure the best quality materials at competitive prices, while optimizing cost and supply chain efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the procurement of key automotive commodities, including metals, plastics, electronic components, and other raw materials, ensuring alignment with production schedules and operational demands.
- Develop and execute strategic sourcing plans for assigned commodities, identifying new suppliers and optimizing the supply base to reduce costs, improve quality, and ensure timely delivery.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers to achieve favorable conditions while maintaining quality and supply chain reliability.
- Monitor commodity markets and global trends to anticipate price fluctuations, supply chain disruptions, and shifts in demand.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, ensuring continuous communication and resolving any issues related to quality, delivery, or performance.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including production, engineering, and quality assurance, to understand commodity needs and resolve any related issues.
- Support inventory management and forecasting efforts, ensuring that commodities are available when needed without excess inventory.
- Track and analyze procurement performance metrics, including cost savings, supplier performance, on-time delivery, and inventory turnover.
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory and industry standards related to commodity sourcing and procurement processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in commodity purchasing or procurement, preferably within the automotive industry.
- Strong knowledge of automotive commodity markets, including metals, plastics, electronics, and raw materials.
- Demonstrated experience in negotiating supplier contracts, managing vendor relationships, and achieving cost savings.
- Ability to analyze market data, identify trends, and adjust sourcing strategies accordingly.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and procurement software (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel as needed to visit suppliers and attend industry events.
- Ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
